Angels hire Ron Washington as manager
Former Rangers skipper takes over in Anaheim
Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian announced Wednesday that the team has hired Ron Washington as its new manager.
Washington, 71, spent eight seasons as manager of the Texas Rangers from 2007 to 2014. He led the Rangers to two American League pennants in 2010 and 2011, but they lost both World Series to the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals, respectively.
Washington has been out of baseball since 2018, but he has a wealth of experience as a player and coach. He played 14 seasons in the majors as a third baseman and shortstop, and he was a coach for the Oakland Athletics from 1996 to 2006.
The Angels are hoping that Washington can help them return to contention after a disappointing 2022 season. The Angels went 73-89 last year, finishing fourth in the AL West. They have not won a playoff game since 2009.
Washington is known for his fiery personality and his ability to connect with players. He is also a respected tactician, and he is expected to bring a new level of discipline to the Angels.
The Angels are hoping that Washington can be the manager who can finally lead them to a World Series title. He has the experience and the track record of success, and he is confident that he can help the Angels reach their goals.
