Lithuanian-American Forward Joins NBA After Non-Traditional Path
WEB Matas Arvidas Buzelis, a 19-year-old Lithuanian-American basketball player, has been drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 2024 NBA Draft. Buzelis, born in Chicago, has taken an unconventional route to the NBA, skipping college and joining the G League Ignite.
Buzelis is a highly skilled forward known for his athleticism, shooting ability, and defensive prowess. He impressed scouts with his performances in the G League, where he averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists per game.
In an interview with Andy Katz, Buzelis discussed his decision to forgo traditional schooling: "I felt like I was ready for the next level, and the G League Ignite gave me the opportunity to develop as a player and prepare for the NBA. I'm grateful for the experience and I'm excited to start my career with the Bulls."
Buzelis is one of several top prospects who competed for the No. 1 pick in the draft. He ultimately went 3rd overall to the Bulls, who were impressed by his potential and versatility.
