Sally Nugent joins BBC Breakfast: All the details about the new team member
BBC Breakfast shake-up
Sally Nugent is the new permanent newsreader on BBC Breakfast
BBC Breakfast has a new permanent fixture. Sally Nugent is joining the presenting team on the BBC’s flagship morning news programme, alongside hosts Dan Walker and Louise Minchin. Nugent, who has been a regular stand-in presenter on the show, will take up her new role on Monday, October 18.
Nugent said in a statement that she was "delighted" to be joining the BBC Breakfast team. "It’s an honour to be part of such an iconic programme and I’m looking forward to bringing the news to our viewers each morning," she said.
BBC Breakfast editor Richard Frediani praised Nugent’s "warmth, wit and journalistic expertise." He said: "She’s a fantastic presenter who has already proved a hit with our viewers. I’m delighted that she’s agreed to join the team permanently and I know she’ll be a great addition to the show.”
Nugent is a familiar face to BBC viewers, having presented a range of programmes for the broadcaster, including BBC News, BBC World News and Victoria Derbyshire. She has also worked as a reporter for BBC Breakfast and BBC News at Six.
The appointment of Nugent as a permanent newsreader on BBC Breakfast comes as part of a wider shake-up of the show. In recent months, the programme has introduced a new set and a new title sequence. It has also seen the departure of long-standing presenter Charlie Stayt.
